Cat Toyger Type

Toyger is a medium-sized cat with feathers resembling a bengal. Toyger has good temperaments with good health and relatability to disease.

The ideal color is the old orange color with black stripes like the tiger. Straw pattern should be lengthened without any spot. The ears are small and round. Overall Toyger has a solid and balanced repetition structure.

This cat's race is a result of intact cats crossing domestic. The goal is to produce a small tiger that can be played and reared in the house. Toyger himself stands for "Toy Tiger" (the tiger can play).

Ras Toyger was discovered and developed by Judy Sugden, owner of a Cattery in America called "EEYAAS Cattery". Toyger is produced by crossing a short-haired striped cat (tabby) cat, with Bengal Tabby Standard. After many years of hard work, these cats made cats with tiger-like red cats.

The race is still in development. First time it was recognized for registration by The International Cat Association (TICA) in the early 1990's. Some breeders in the United States and Britain are trying to develop this race. Toyger earned Preliminary New Breed status in 2000. And in May of 2007 it is expected to gain a full status in the cat competition (Championship Status).
